UNKNOWN COSTS KEEPING YOU

FROM STARTING YOUR OWN

GENEALOGY WEBSITE?

One of the top five reasons genealogists don’t create their own website is cost. Either they are afraid it will cost too much or they just don’t know how much it will cost.

Unless you are using a free website builder such as blogger.com, the general cost of running a website starts with a custom domain name, and a hosting provider.

Domain names cost $8 -$20 hey year, with a .com domain name running as low as $10.

WordPress hosting providers run the gamut and can be as inexpensive as $36 for the first year, or as expensive as $350 a year. The average is $120 to $150 a year after the first year, but the best prices are only available if you pay for the full year upfront.

But what if you could share website hosting with another genealogist?

You would have your own WordPress website, at a fraction of the cost. And you would only have to pay month to month!

Well, that is what I’m offering. For less than $10 a month you can try out your own WordPress website. If it doesn’t work for you, there is a 14-day money-back guarantee, and you can cancel at any time.

We offer a free domain name at wp4genealogy.net, or you can bring your own custom domain

This is a low-risk way of trying out your own WordPress genealogy website.

Frequently asked questions

Yes it is, and there are many excellent genealogy websites running on blogger.com. It’s a great way to get started.

But if you’re ready to take your website to the next level, or if you want to run an e-commerce website, WordPress is the way to go.

wordpress.com is the only free WordPress host, and their free tier is very limited.

There are cheaper hosting plans out there, but there are two things to consider

  1. the cheap monthly fee requires you to sign up for a full year
  2. The cost increases to $10, $15, $25 a month after the first year. That’s $120 to $300 a year.

The yearly cost of this plan is $84, you pay monthly, and you can cancel anytime.

SiteGround offers great support, but requires that I, as the account holder, continue to be the single point of contact for support questions.

Until we can build up the membership site and I can hire some staff, I have to limit support to daytime hours.

While I am not officially offering to provide support for the WordPress side of things, that’s one genealogist to another I’m glad to answer questions or I can.

The focus will be on teaching you how to maintain the site.

And of course I am glad to recommend themes and or plugins.

You do.  We don’t share your content or personal information.

Then you can take your WordPress content with you!

Our focus is not on keeping you on our platform, it’s on helping you be successful running a genealogy website.

We will even help you come up with a migration plan for moving your content.
